Cristian Castro

A perennial chart presence since the early 1990s, Latin pop hitmaker Cristian Castro is well-known for his romantic ballads. Despite the fact that his private life is more often than not the subject of lurid tales from tabloid publications, Castro proved himself to be one of the most consistently successful Latin pop artists of his time, returning to the upper reaches of the singles chart more than 30 times, demonstrating a tireless work ethic. His smooth, airy tenor is disciplined, skilled in pop, traditional musics, and even classical. His 1992 debut was nominated for a Grammy for best Latin Pop album. 1999's Mi Vida Sin Tu Amor was also nominated after nearly a decade of hit singles. 2003's Amar Es broke one of the strictest models in Latin pop in combining several languages with corresponding musical styles. The song "Why" was delivered with dancefloor rhythms and English lyrics while "No Hace Falta" combined Japanese Shibuya pop with Latin pop. The set's most successful single (number three, Latin Pop), "Te Llamé," remained firmly entrenched in Castro's roots. Since 2010, in addition to incessant touring throughout Latin America and the United States, Castro has almost exclusively devoted his recordings to tributes to his musical heros and influences. 2010's Vive el Principe and the following year's Mi Amigo el Principe paid homage to Jose Jose (and subsequently hit the top spot on the Latin Albums charts), while 2018's acclaimed Mi Tributo a Juan Gabriel was poised to accomplish the same.
