Greg Mendez

Singer/songwriter Greg Mendez distinguishes himself with short, bittersweet tunes about small things and moments that leave their mark. He gathered his first set of MySpace demos on 2009's Early Demos, then gave a similar treatment to tunes accumulated on his phone's GarageBand app with 2016's Phone Records. His release schedule picked up the pace from that point on, and he issued three more albums and several shorter releases by early 2020, most of them with full indie band arrangements. The stripped-down, disarmingly sad-but-sweet Greg Mendez proved to be his indie breakout in 2023, leading to record deal with Dead Oceans, which released the follow-up, 2026's equally self-conscious Beauty Land. A set of 14 songs with an average playing time of less than two minutes each, it was recorded mostly alone and directly to tape at his home studio in Philadelphia.
