Los Ángeles Azules

Family band Los Ángeles Azules are the progenitors of "Cumbia Sonidera," an urban, gritty, working-class expansion of the Cumbia Colombiana style that exploded in Mexico during the 1970s. Their adaptation relies on rich harmonies, call-and-response vocals, and a meld of organic and electronic instruments/treatments. From their 1982 debut album, Ritmo... Alegría... Sabor!, Vol. 1, Los Ángeles Azules juxtaposed cumbia rhythms with romantic ranchera melodies that were executed in perfect five-part vocal harmony. During the 21st century, the band toured the world and collaborated with Latin musicians including Lila Downs, Natalia Lafourcade, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Miguel Bose, and Gloria Trevi. Los Ángeles Azules played 2018's Coachella festival; they were the first Mexican group to perform there. De Buenos Aires Para el Mundo appeared in 2020, followed by Cumbia del Corazon in 2022.
