As unexpected as the prevalence of shoegaze is on young alternative rockers in the 2020s -- the genre was simply never a major commercial concern beyond the six figures of units My Bloody Valentine moved of Loveless -- it's even more of a shock to see Midrift's streaming numbers with songs partly indebted to that sonic flashpoint of the late '80s and early '90s. Citing acts like Deftones, Title Fight, and Whirr as influences, the trio soon picked up plum opening slots for bands like Fiddlehead and Momma, releasing the EPs Elysian and Need in 2023 before focusing on the material that would become their full-length debut, 2026's Silhouette.
