About
Nicholas G. Padilla treats sound, image and software as a single praxis. A first-generation Latin American artist raised in Miami’s Little Havana, he came up through the city’s experimental underground, where ancestral Caribbean roots and speculative technological futures run through everything he makes. In 2016 he became the first Miami artist selected for Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal. A run of records codified that sound: the IDM-leaning “Solar Dispatch” on Schematic, the club-built “Beyond Dualism” on Omnidisc (mastered by Danny Daze), the conceptual “Parrot Jungle” on Space Tapes, “Mas Aya” with INVT, and the “Organic Technology” split with Nick Leon. He’s shared stages with Bjork, Oneohtrix Point Never, Jlin, M.E.S.H., Actress and DJ Assault. Resident Advisor calls him “a key figure of the Miami underground” — and III Points has been his home for years. That range carries past music. His visual and new-media work is represented by Florence Vivien’s Galaxy Art in Paris and has shown during Art Basel. He co-founded Miami Community Radio, an online community station, and solo-founded Touring Tools, a software stack built to help independent artists thrive globally.
